With the entire city getting all pumped up for Tramlines this year, it seems only fitting that Leopold Square are jumping on board and lining up to present their biggest programme ever. Parajumpers Femme Masterpiece Celine Spanning the entire three days that Tramlines is taking over Sheffield, they’ll be having a full weekend of live music with artists spanning blues and soul to swing and jive; it’s always a proper good dance up. So without further ado, allow me to share with you their happenings for the 25th to the 26th of July: Friday 24th: 4-6 pm The LSQ All Stars -We get Tramlines weekend off to a great start with the resident band, featuring many of the North’s premier musicians. AIR JORDAN 11 Swing, Blues, Soul, Funk, many styles will be covered with consummate style. 7-9 pm Charlotte Branson – The young and talented blues and soul singer Charlotte brings the flavours of the Street to LSQ – with the influences of Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Erkah Badu, through to Etta James and Aretha Franklin. A new visitor to the Square by an exciting new talent. Lewis Neal LSU Tigers Jersey Saturday 25th (Soul+Grooves day): 1-3 pm Ryan Taylor Octofunk Beta – Resident keyboard and vocal legend Taylor brings a large and talented band of groove merchants together for a mix of original material, neo soul beats and blistering solos. Nike Air Max Sequent 4-6 pm The Reverend Chunk Butt Funky – You will know when the reverend is in the house! Cleve Freckleton is a huge personality that brings all people together towards the dance floor. A monster voice, and a band of top flight touring musicians bring the authentic gritty edge of Soul to life. 7-9 pm Montuno – A Sheffield party staple, the 8-piece groove machine that is Montuno deliver a packed dance floor on the cobbles every time. Authentic deep funk, acid jazz, and soul breaks with a tight rhythm section, funky horns, and the powerhouse vocals of Dora Goddard. Not to be missed. Sunday 26th (Swing + Blues Day): 1-3 pm Danny Maddocks – LSQ’s favourite singer/guitarist returns with a new band featuring many of the regions top session players. canada goose rideau Originals, groovy standards, and a healthy dose of the Blues all played to the highest levels. Think the influences of B.B King, George Benson, and John Mayer combined in a slick new package! 4-6 pm The Dizzy Club – Well it wouldn’t be Leopold Square without them! Sheffield’s enigmatic King of Swing John Naylor fronts a top flight band playing gypsy swing, soul, and classic jazz tunes, with amazing arrangements and musicianship throughout. 7-9 pm Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods – Miss Carmen Ghia fronts one of the U.K’s best regarded bands in the 50’s/60’s scene. Desmond Howard Jerseys Authentic Jive, Swing, Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, and Blues played and dressed correctly! A storming band that always attract a big crowd, so arrive early and bring dancing shoes! Sound good? You know it does.
