Collect! @ O2 Academy 5/10/13

collectSeven parties, three days, one ticket ran the tagline, and house and techno fans in Sheffield felt the buzz of what could be a swarm of bleeps and blips to sweep the city.

The Friday night saw events held at Bungalow & Bears and the Forum which by all accounts from those in attendance was bang on. We were saving ourselves for the main event – Collect! at the O2 Academy.  Never having been to this behemoth of a venue, we were curious to see how the migration from the intimate sub-terranean warrens of DLS would fare.  It didn’t take long to be faced with an overly complicated queuing system that seemed to be paced for a packed venue; not so when we were finally allowed in after over half an hour.

Friendly faces were seen, beers were drunk and, when suitably inebriated, we joined an enthusiastic dance floor that looked somewhat dwarfed and lost in its mega structure shell.  The visuals and DJs could not be faulted and the standout set for us was Dixon playing upfront techno; Ten Walls’ Gotham was particularly well received by the crowd.  Verdict? Collect, you’re still our mate.
