Andy H warmed up the crowd in the cosy Riverside pub with some Hip Hop classics and sick two-turntable mixing and scratching. The dance-floor was tightly packed and Format was met with a cheer as he kicked off his set.
Format’s a home-grown DJ and Producer (born in Southampton) who achieved world-wide acclaim with his 2003 album Music for the Mature B-Boy. He has since released a healthy quota of Studio and Mix albums and toured most of the world with his music.
Friday’s gig was, I imagine, more intimate than Format is used to but this didn’t effect the quality of his set and the pub was filled with good vibes, head nodding and much shaking of the ass. The DJ work was controlled and seamless as Format rocked the crowd with a myriad of early Hip Hop, Funk and Funky-Hip-Hop.
Hearing some Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick was a personal highlight.
